And how does Genie the Spice Goddess do this? It all started with Poseidon’s big lamb-stew contest, back in the day when Greek mythology was the hot new thing . . .

Genie the Spice Goddess & Greek Mythology

The god Poseidon of Greek mythology had a contest every year for the best lamb stew. A trendy new cafe opened near the Palace of Knossos on the Greek island of Crete and the owner, Demetrios, was determined to win. The competition between the Minoans and the Athenians was always stiff – sometimes homicidal – so Demetrios trained hard, cooking something more spectacular each day.

Mythology’s culinary stranger

One night a beautiful stranger came to his cafe. She complimented his fine Greek cooking. He complimented her everything. They got totally torrid together and became inseparable. A few days later, the god Poseidon arrived for the contest. All the Minoan chefs had prepared their most divine dishes, the stuff of culinary mythology. Demetrios’ lover snuck a taste of his dish and made a face. When he wasn’t looking, she threw in a little extra something. Was it an herb, a spice, or a blend?

Lost in mythology

Unfortunately, Demetrios’ mother saw the stranger tamper with her darling son’s culinary creation. She told her boy that the woman was evil, probably an Athenian spy. And so he sent his true love packing, vowing never to see her again. The beautiful stranger sailed away across the Aegean as Poseidon finished judging the contest. Demetrios’ dish took the prize – but when he tasted his own stew, he hardly recognized it. His lover had tossed in something that tasted like moonlight. According to mythology, he set sail that day in a hopeless search for her. His descendants have sought her descendents through the ages and across continents. The beautiful stranger’s culinary secret disappeared along with her.

Until now!

Mythology’s culinary secrets now revealed

Genie Gekas of Tucson, Arizona, is the many-greats-granddaughter of the first Greek Spice Goddess.
Today you can feast on the herb and spice blends that won the god Poseidon’s favor, thus revealing mythology’s culinary secrets. But fair warning: Mythology clearly proves that consuming these spices may result in passionate love affairs with unfinished meals, the petty jealousy of in-laws, and spontaneous marriage proposals (Genie gets them all the time).

Yassou!
